The new President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, received on April 2 in Diamniadio, the Moroccan delegation, led by the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, who represented His Majesty King Mohammed VI at the investiture ceremony of the new Senegalese President.
This meeting, which saw the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and Morocco’s Ambassador in Dakar, Hassan Naciri, took place on the sidelines of the swearing-in and installation ceremony of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
On this occasion, the Moroccan delegation conveyed the congratulations of His Majesty the King to the new President of Senegal, as well as His Majesty the King’s wishes for prosperity and progress to the Senegalese people.
It should be noted that the visit of the Moroccan delegation to Senegal comes on the Highest Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, following the invitation addressed by the newly elected Senegalese President to the Sovereign to take part in the investiture ceremony.
Apart from the leaders of the sub-region, His Majesty King Mohammed VI is the only Head of State to have received an invitation, which reflects, once again, the unwavering ties of brotherhood, solidarity, and mutual respect uniting Morocco and Senegal.
Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who won the presidential election of March 24 in the first round with 54.28% of the votes, far ahead of candidate Amadou Ba (35.79%), has become the fifth president of Senegal since the country’s independence in 1960.
