This position, which also considers the autonomy initiative as the only solution to the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara within the framework of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, was reaffirmed following the joint working session which brought together the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and Their Highnesses and Excellencies the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the GCC countries.
In this regard, Qatar’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Council’s current session, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Than, expressed the GCC countries’ constant support for the Moroccanity of the Sahara and their firm attachment to the Kingdom’s sovereignty over the entirety of its territory, as well as their support for UN decisions on the subject.
For his part, the GCC Secretary General reiterated the Council’s positions and resolutions in favor of the Moroccanity of the Sahara, shedding light on the strategic cooperation between the GCC and Morocco.
It should be noted that the joint ministerial meeting between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf is part of the solid relations and renewed strategic partnership uniting Morocco and the GCC countries, the foundations of which were laid by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah assist Him, and his brothers the leaders of the GCC member countries, since the Morocco-GCC Summit which took place in Riyadh on April 20, 2016.
