British member of parliament, Daniel Kawczynski, urged on January 30, in Rabat, the UK government to recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.
In a statement to the press following a meeting between a delegation of British parliamentarians and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, Kawczynski noted that he “asked a lot of questions within our parliament (…) to know when we are going to recognize the Moroccan Sahara as an integral part of the Kingdom of Morocco,” emphasizing the privileged status enjoyed by Morocco as an “extremely important ally” of the United Kingdom.
The British official also shed light on the importance that the United Kingdom attaches to its partnership with the Kingdom of Morocco, welcoming the vision of HM King Mohammed VI to strengthen this partnership.
It should be recalled that this is not the first time that a British MP has called for full recognition of the Moroccanity of the Sahara.
On January 27, member of the British House of Lords, Daniel Hannan, urged his country to recognize Morocco’s “full sovereignty” over its Sahara and to strengthen commercial relations between the two Kingdoms.
For his part, Liam Fox addressed a letter on January 7 to Foreign Minister David Cameron in which he emphasized the importance of “a more proactive and favorable position” from the United Kingdom regarding the Moroccan Sahara issue.
