Senegalese President, Macky Sall, affirmed that the relationship with Morocco has always been a constant in his country’s foreign policy, whoever assumes the presidency.
Intervening during an audience granted to members of the Moroccan delegation participating in the Senegalese-Moroccan Conference on Decentralization at the Presidential Palace in Dakar, Macky Sall indicated that His Majesty King Mohammed V has always paid High attention to relations with Senegal, citing in this context the two symbolic visits during this month, namely that of the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, and the present visit of local elected officials.
“This touches us and showcases the importance that Morocco, a brotherly country, attaches to its relations with Senegal,” noted the Senegalese President.
During this audience, the Senegalese head of state instructed HM the King’s ambassador in Dakar, Hassan Naciri, to convey to his brother, His Majesty the King, may God help him, his deep gratitude and feelings of friendship for the concern with which the Sovereign has always surrounded relations with Senegal.
In the same context, Sall recalled the centuries-old, cultural, human, and religious nature of relations between the two countries, highlighting the historical reality that constitutes the Islamization of Senegal, accentuated under the Almoravid dynasty.
The Senegalese head of state also praised His Majesty the King’s “very proactive” policy in terms of decentralization and territorial planning, welcoming Morocco’s tangible success in this area.
On a different note, Sall expressed his hope that this event would allow the exchange of expertise between the two parties with regard to decentralization, calling on Moroccan participants to share its successes and pitfalls to inspire Senegal and avoid the same challenges.
The Moroccan delegation, led by the Governor in charge of the Cooperation and Documentation Pole at the General Directorate of Local Authorities (DGCT), Abdelouahhab El Jabri, includes in particular the president of the Moroccan Association of Presidents of Municipal Councils (AMPCC), Mounir Laymouri, Mayor of the city of Tangier, officials representing the DGCT, the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH), the Fund of Communal Equipment (FEC) and the Deposit and Management Fund (CDG), as well as presidents of different municipalities.
