The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, stated, on December 7 in Rabat, that the organization of presidential and legislative elections in Libya is a fundamental process to meet the expectations and aspirations of the Libyan people.
Speaking at a joint conference with the President of Libya’s High State Council, Muhammad Meftah Takala, Bourita stressed that Morocco, based on its constant positions on the situation in Libya, as defined by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, still considers that Libya can adopt a political process leading to elections, adding that Libyans hold the solution to the crisis that the country is currently facing.
”Today there is an opportunity that Libya’s institutions and protagonists must seize to find a solution,” said Bourita, adding that Libyans hold the solution to the crisis that the country is currently facing.
In this context, the Moroccan official noted that in terms of the balanced relations that the Kingdom maintains with all parties, Morocco’s role consists of listening and promoting Libyan inter-governmental dialogue, as demonstrated during the talks in Skhirat, Bouznika, and Tangier.
Bourita also seized this opportunity to emphasize that all the initiatives which the Kingdom carries in support of the brotherly Libyan people are based on Morocco’s conviction that the future of the region depends on the stability of Libya, noting that Libya is ‘‘a supporting component in the future of North Africa and the Arab Maghreb”.
