Azerbaijan has reiterated its “permanent and unwavering” support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and the Kingdom’s sovereignty over its Sahara.
This position was expressed at the second session of the Morocco-Azerbaijan Joint Cooperation Commission, held in Rabat on November 13, and co-chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and his Azerbaijani counterpart, Jeyhun Bayramov.
According to the minutes of the meeting, Azerbaijan expressed its full support for Morocco’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the efforts of the United Nations and the Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy, Staffan de Mistura, to achieve a lasting and equitable political solution to the dispute over the Sahara, based on the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, namely Resolution 2703, and the Moroccan Autonomy Plan, as well as the serious and credible efforts deployed by Morocco to reach a definite solution to this artificial conflict.
The meeting minutes also highlighted the excellent relations uniting Morocco and Azerbaijan, which are based on solidarity, trust, mutual respect, and reciprocal support on issues of vital interest to the two countries.
The same source stressed that His Majesty King Mohammed VI and H.E. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev are committed to developing and diversifying these relations to promote the prosperity of both the Moroccan and Azerbaijani peoples.
