Morocco and the United Arab Emirates signed, on October 19 in Dubai, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the field of cybersecurity.
Under the terms of the agreement, signed on the sidelines of the GITEX GLOBAL 2023 trade fair between the Directorate General of Information Systems Security (DGSSI) of Morocco’s National Defense Administration and the Emirati Cyber Security Council, the two countries pledge to cooperate on cybersecurity initiatives to meet the growing challenges, risks, and opportunities in this area.
This MoU, which was signed by the Chargé d’Affaires of the Moroccan Embassy in Abu Dhabi, Souhail Bouslikhane, and the Head of UAE Cyber Security Council, aims to establish a broad framework for cooperation between the two countries in the field of cybersecurity and work towards the success of digital transformation efforts and comprehensive economic and social growth in order to address growing threats.
The memorandum also provides for the creation of a joint committee to plan and oversee the implementation of cooperation activities, in addition to setting timetables for these initiatives. Annual meetings of this committee are also planned, alternating between Morocco and the UAE when necessary.
The agreement is a testament to Morocco and the UAE’s commitment to creating a secure digital environment and exchanging expertise to strengthen their capabilities in the field of cybersecurity. It also aims to expand efforts to secure cyberspace at regional and international levels.
This Memorandum kicks off a new phase of cooperation in the field of cybersecurity between Morocco and the United Arab Emirates and is regarded as a model of international cooperation.
