The Secretary of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Ceda Ogada, emphasized, on October 9, Morocco’s unwavering determination and commitment to ensuring the success of the Annual Meetings of the World Bank (WB) Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Marrakech (October 9-15).
In a statement on the “IMF Today” broadcast, Ogada stated that “it was a great pleasure to work with the Moroccan authorities, who have shown their commitment and determination”, praising “the quality of the event’s infrastructure, which showcases the magic of Moroccan culture and art”.
Ogada added that the organization of this event “was not an easy task due to the pandemic”, noting that following the earthquake in Al Haouz, the authorities were even more determined to organize the Annual Meetings and showcase Morocco’s resilience and the Bretton Woods institutions’ confidence in the Kingdom.
The official also emphasized the importance of organizing such an event in Africa, a continent with a bright future, and particularly in Morocco, which is a crossroads between Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.
“It’s also a way of showing our great interest in the region and its priorities, 50 years after the assemblies were held on African soil”, emphasized Ogada.
Interviewed on the same program, IMF Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva, described the organization of this major event as “extraordinary”, which “enabled us to admire the hospitality and warm welcome of the Moroccan people”, whose solidarity should serve as a guiding light for the work of these Meetings in tackling the different challenges that lie ahead.
