El Salvador reaffirmed, on October 2 in New York, its support for Morocco’s efforts to achieve a realistic, pragmatic, and lasting political solution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
Intervening before the members of the Fourth Committee (4C) of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), El Salvador’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), Egriselda Aracely González López, commended Morocco’s autonomy plan, recalling that the Security Council (SC) has considered this plan as a “viable solution” in its resolutions since 2007.
The Salvadoran diplomat also praised the efforts of the United Nations Secretary-General’s (UNSG) Personal Envoy for the Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, to facilitate the political process under the exclusive aegis of the United Nations Secretary-General (UNSG), including de Mistura’s recent visit last September in preparation for the next Security Council (SC) meeting on the Moroccan Sahara, scheduled for the end of October.
