Al Haouz Earthquake: World Leaders Express Solidarity with the Kingdom of Morocco

Several world leaders have expressed their deep condolences and solidarity with Morocco, following the earthquake that struck numerous regions of the Kingdom on the evening of September 8.
American President Joe Biden stated that he was “deeply saddened by the loss of life and devastation caused by the earthquake in Morocco,” stressing that his administration is fully prepared “to provide any necessary assistance to the Moroccan people.”
“The United States stands by Morocco and my friend King Mohammed VI at this difficult moment,” emphasized the American President.
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques of Islam, Sovereign of Saudi Arabia, King Salman bin Abdelaziz Al Saud, also expressed his deep condolences and sincere feelings of compassion, imploring the Almighty to surround the victims with His holy mercy and grant patience and comfort to their loved ones, and a speedy recovery to the injured.
Similarly, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia and Chairman of the Council of Ministers, HRH Mohamed bin Salman bin Abdelaziz Al Saud, expressed his deep condolences and sincere sympathy to the bereaved families, imploring Allah to welcome the victims into His vast paradise and grant a speedy recovery to the injured.
The President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, expressed his solidarity with the Moroccan people during this difficult time, praying to the Almighty to preserve Morocco from any misfortune.
King Abdullah II of Jordan also voiced out his country’s support for Morocco following this “tragic” event, expressing, on his behalf of the Jordanian people and government, his sincere condolences and compassion for Morocco and his wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured.
For his part, the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, expressed his sincere condolences to the brotherly Moroccan people, imploring Allah to welcome the victims into his vast paradise, grant a speedy recovery to the injured and preserve the Kingdom and its people from all misfortune.
The same outpouring of solidarity and compassion came from the King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Issa Al Khalifa, who expressed his sincere condolences and deep sympathy to the families of the victims and the brotherly Moroccan people, imploring the Almighty to accept the victims into his vast paradise, grant their loved ones patience and comfort, and to grant a speedy recovery to the injured.
The Sultan of Oman, Haitham Ben Tariq, also expressed his sincere condolences and feelings of compassion, imploring Allah to shower the victims with His Holy Mercy and grant patience to their loved ones and a speedy recovery to the injured.
Addressing His Majesty King Mohammed VI, calling the Sovereign his “Majesty and dear brother,” HM King Felipe VI of Spain expressed his country’s “deepest feelings of sorrow” and “sincere condolences” following the “violent” earthquake that shook Morocco.
HM King Felipe VI stated that Queen Letizia also extended her “most sincere solidarity to the beloved Moroccan people” and “support and affection for the families of the victims at this time of grief.”
The Chinese President, Xi Jinping, stated he was “shocked” to learn that a strong earthquake had struck Morocco, causing numerous casualties and material damage, expressing, on behalf of the Chinese government and people, his deep sorrow for the victims and his sincere condolences to the families.
The Chinese president also expressed his confidence in the Kingdom’s ability to overcome the impact of the disaster and rebuild the affected areas as quickly as possible.
Among the leaders who expressed solidarity with the Kingdom there is also Russian President Vladimir Putin, who stressed that “in Russia, we share the grief and mourning of the friendly Moroccan people,” offering his “sincere condolences for the tragic consequences of this devastating earthquake.”
For his part, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed his solidarity with the Moroccan people, imploring the Most High to surround the victims with His holy mercy and grant a speedy recovery to the injured.
In a similar context, Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani expressed his deepest sympathy and condolences to the “brotherly Kingdom of Morocco, the King, government, and people.”
Pope Francis also expressed his “profound solidarity” with the families bereaved by the tragedy.
Speaking on behalf of all the member states of the European Union (EU), the President of the EU Council, Charles Michel, expressed the members’ deepest condolences for the terrible loss of human life caused by the earthquake that had shaken several regions of Morocco, further expressing the members’ deep sadness.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, stated that he was “profoundly saddened to learn of the earthquake that hit Morocco, which claimed many lives.”
In a statement issued by his spokesman, Stéphane Dujarric, Guterres expressed his solidarity with the Moroccan government and people at this difficult time, noting that the “United Nations (UN) is at Morocco’s disposal to assist it in its efforts to help the impacted population.”
In the same context, the Chairman of the African Union Commission (AUC), Moussa Faki Mahamat, expressed his “great sorrow” and offered his condolences to the people of Morocco following this earthquake “with tragic consequences.”
The current Chairman of the African Union (AU) and Head of State of the Comoros, Azali Assoumani, expressed his “solidarity” with Morocco and expressed his “heartfelt condolences” following the violent earthquake.
Similarly, Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, expressed the empathy of the Israeli government and people with Morocco at this painful time and his deep condolences to the families of the victims, stressing that his country “stands by its Moroccan friends at this difficult period.”
A similar position was expressed by Senegalese President Macky Sall, who expressed his condolences to the “friendly and brotherly Moroccan people” following this tragic earthquake, wishing peace to the victims’ souls and a speedy recovery to the injured.
