Several American Mayors commended Israel’s decision to recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara.
The mayor of Rochester Hills, a city in the Midwestern state of Michigan, Bryan Barnett, described the Israeli recognition as “great news” and a “breakthrough in Moroccan-Israeli relations,” adding that this recognition is a “new step in the direction of regional peace and progress.”

For his part, the Mayor of Orlando in the southern state of Florida, Buddy Dyer, praised Israel’s decision, describing it as a “breakthrough” toward regional peace and stability.

In a similar context, the Mayor of Findlay in the Midwestern state of Ohio, Christina Muryn, congratulated Morocco and Israel on this important decision, hailing this “bold new step” towards peace and stability in the region.

The Royal Office reported, on July 17, that His Majesty King Mohammed VI received a letter from the Israeli Prime Minister, Benyamin Netanyahu, in which the Israeli Prime Minister informed His Majesty the King of Israel’s “recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the territory of the Sahara.”
Netanyahu underlined that Israel’s position is going to be “reflected in all relevant acts and documents of the Israeli Government,” emphasizing that this decision would be “communicated to the United Nations (UN), regional and international organizations of which Israel is a member, and all countries with diplomatic relations with Israel.”
In his letter to the Sovereign, the Israeli Prime Minister noted that Israel is positively considering “opening a Consulate in Dakhla” to implement Israel’s recognition of the Moroccanity of the Sahara.
