The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami, was on a working visit to London (July 11-13) to examine ways of elevating relations between the Moroccan and British parliaments to the level of the strategic ties uniting the two Kingdoms.
Talbi Alami told the press that this objective will be met by creating an annual forum between the Morocco-UK parliamentary friendship groups focused on issues of common interest.
The Moroccan parliamentarian held talks, on July 11, with the Speaker of the House of Commons, Lindsay Hoyle, on ways to boost bilateral relations and “the critical role played by Morocco at the regional level, as a politically, economically and socially stable country.”
Talbi Alami also held a meeting with members of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) and its Chair, Richard Graham, during which the parties discussed the salutary role Morocco plays in promoting democracy and political stability in North Africa and the Sahel region.
In this regard, Talbi Alami stressed that this meeting, which was attended by Morocco’s Ambassador to the UK, Hakim Hajoui, highlighted “the Kingdom’s holistic and humanist approach to managing the migration issue.”
In a similar context, Talbi Alami held fruitful discussions with the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), Stephen Twigg, on establishing new cooperation channels between Morocco and the intergovernmental organization.
Talbi Alami also underlined that strengthening Morocco-UK parliamentary relations and promoting coordination between the two countries would enable them to support each other in international forums.
