Morocco was elected, on July 10 in Rome, Vice-President of the 173rd session of the Council of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) and a member of the Council’s Finance Committee until 2025.
Morocco, in the person of Youssef Balla, the Kingdom’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) Agencies in Rome, was elected Vice-President of the 173rd session of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Council, which is FAO’s executive body between sessions and mainly examines issues relating to the international situation of food and agriculture.
The Council also addresses current and future activities of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), including work programs and budgets, administration and financial management, and constitutional issues.
During the 173rd session of the FAO Council, Morocco was also elected a member of the Finance Committee for the period from July 2023 to July 2025. This committee assists the Council in exercising its control over FAO’s financial management, with its functions listed in Article XXVII of FAO’s General Regulations.
Morocco was elected, on July 6 at the 43rd session of the FAO Conference, member of the FAO Council, representing the African regional group for a three-year term (June 30, 2023 – June 30, 2026).
