Morocco and Brazil expressed, on June 2 in Rome, their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in agricultural development, particularly by promoting research and innovation, which are “essential tools for food systems adaptation and resilience.”
On the sidelines of his participation in the 43rd session of the Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (UN), Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests, Mohamed Sadiki, and his Brazilian counterpart, Paulo Teixeira, expressed their firm commitment to expanding cooperation in agriculture, highlighting the role of science in the development of the sector, which is currently facing several challenges worldwide.
In a statement to the press, Teixeira said that “it is important for us to strengthen cooperation with Morocco,” praising the Moroccan agricultural model, which is based on a “holistic approach covering several fields, including technology and research.”
Teixeira also recalled Morocco’s ongoing efforts in water desalination and wastewater treatment as optimum solutions to climate change.
During this meeting, also attended by Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) in Rome, Youssef Balla, the Moroccan minister shed light on the actions that the Kingdom undertook to develop sustainable irrigation, emphasizing the importance of sharing agricultural technology and innovation to meet the challenges of food security and global warming.
Sadiki also affirmed his Ministry’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with Brazil to promote joint action based on science and research to meet common challenges, outlining the Kingdom’s different achievements in agricultural development.
On June 1, the Moroccan minister also held talks with his Spanish and Ghanaian counterparts on the Kingdom’s role in regional food security and its pioneering experience in agriculture and water resource management.
