Chairman of the Chilean Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee, Francisco Chahuán, reaffirmed Chile’s “unwavering” support for the Moroccan Autonomy Plan to find a definitive solution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
Following his meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, Chahuán stressed, on June 26, in Rabat, that “Chile adopts an unwavering position in support for Morocco’s territorial integrity,” noting that “this is a matter of principle in its foreign policies, which remain unchanged and one of the constants of our country’s democratic governments.”
The Chilean official, who is at the head of a large delegation from the Chilean Senate on a visit to the Kingdom at the invitation of the House of Councilors, also stated that this visit is a testament to Chile’s firm position on the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, adding that “we wish to collaborate so that other countries can join this proposal, particularly in Latin America. “
Noting that Morocco and Chile face similar challenges, Chahuán stressed his country’s firm commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Kingdom through a free-trade agreement and expressed his country’s keen interest in Morocco’s fertilizer sector and the development of the green hydrogen industry.
As part of his working visit to the Kingdom, the Chairman of the Chilean Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee will hold a series of meetings with several Moroccan officials.
