The Arab League (AL) announced, on June 14, that Morocco will host the 53rd session of the Council of Arab Information Ministers on June 21, adding that the meetings of the 17th session of the Executive Bureau and the 99th session of the Standing Committee for Arab Media will take place on June 19 and 20.
The Arab League (AL) stated that this ministerial session will be held in partnership with the General Secretariat of the Arab League (AL), noting that the delegation of the Arab League (AL) General Secretariat will be led by the Deputy Secretary General of the Arab League (AL) and Head of the Media and Communication Department, Ahmed Rachid Khattabi.
“The Standing Committee on Arab Media will examine the working documents prepared by the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Ministers of Information, based on constructive contributions from member states and partners, before submitting these documents to the Executive Bureau for the approval of the Council of Ministers,” explained Khattabi.
The Head of the Media and Communication Department stressed that the main focus of these meetings will be on the media’s ongoing support for the Palestinian cause and the situation in occupied Al-Quds, adding that “we will also discuss the follow-up of the action plan for Arab media abroad, in particular the project to create an observatory and an integrated platform.”
This session of the Council of Arab Information Ministers will also cover the development of the Arab media strategy and its action plan, with a focus on the implementation of the objectives set out in the Arab Media Charter to promote sustainable development by 2030.
“We will explore the integration of media and environmental education into school curricula and the development of a unified approach to dealing with international media companies.”
The main topics on the Council of Arab Information Ministers’ agenda also include the activities of the Arab League (AL) missions and centers, reports of media organizations and federations, and organizational issues on developing joint media action.
This meeting is an opportunity to examine and evaluate the progress made in implementing the decisions adopted by the Council of Arab Ministers of Information since its last session held in Cairo. These evaluations will be based on intensive meetings held within the Council’s structures, committees, and working teams.
