As part of the humanitarian activities carried out on the sidelines of the “African Lion” exercise, held under the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), a field medical-surgical hospital was established in the local community of Rasmouka (Tiznit Province).
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the field hospital, Colonel Salah Eddine Hassouna, stated that the hospital, which has been operating since May 30, is staffed by medical teams from the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and the US Army, adding that the hospital offers medical and surgical services to the local population.
Colonel Hassouna explained that the multidisciplinary health structure includes two surgical units, hospitalization units with a capacity of thirty extendable beds, six dental units, a radiology unit, a sterilization unit, a laboratory, a pharmacy, and a social assistance facility.
The hospital’s services are provided by a mixed Moroccan-American multidisciplinary medical and paramedical staff of 125 people, an administrative and support team of 112 people, in addition to 13 social workers.
Up until June 12, this field hospital had welcomed 7.800 patients, who benefited from over 24.500 medical and surgical services.
In addition, 300 surgical procedures were conducted, 1.450 pairs of spectacles were distributed, and 7.800 prescriptions were issued.
The “African Lion” exercise is an annual joint exercise organized by the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and the US Armed Forces.
Underway until June 16 in seven Moroccan regions, namely Agadir, Tan-Tan, Mehbes, Tiznit, Kénitra, Benguerir, and Tifnit, the “African Lion” exercise contributes to strengthening Morocco-US military cooperation and encouraging exchanges between the armed forces of several countries to promote security and stability in the region.
