US Press Secretary to the First Lady, Vanessa Valdivia, announced that the First Lady, Jill Biden will visit the Kingdom of Morocco as part of her trip to the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe, which is scheduled to begin on May 31.
Valdivia underlined that the First Lady aims to promote, through this regional tour, the conditions of women and youth around the world, particularly concerning education, health, and empowerment.
This visit is the First Lady’s second visit to Morocco following that of 2014 when she accompanied President Joe Biden, then Vice-president of the Obama administration, during his participation in the fifth edition of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) held in November 2014 in Marrakech.
Morocco has always been a destination for First Ladies of the US, as was the case in 1963 with the visit of Jacqueline Kennedy, wife of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, and in 1999 with the visit of Hillary Clinton and her daughter Chelsea. Clinton also revisited the Kingdom in 2012 as Secretary of State under the Obama administration.
In 2016, Morocco also welcomed Michelle Obama, accompanied by her two daughters, Malia and Sasha, as part of the “Let Girls Learn” initiative launched in 2015.
Morocco’s established reputation as a land of welcome and hospitality is indicative of the high regard Morocco enjoys among senior American officials, and the solid long-standing strategic partnership between Morocco and the US, under the Wise Leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
