The Ethiopian government signed a joint development agreement with the OCP group on September 18, to set up a fertilizer production plant in Dire Dawa. This project, which TelQuel described behind the scenes in October 2020, will ultimately require an investment of more than $ 3.7 billion.
Announced by the official website of the Ethiopian Ministry of Finance, the agreement was reached during the visit of a high-level Ethiopian delegation to Morocco, headed by Ato Ahmed Shide, Minister of Finance, accompanied by representatives of the Ethiopian Chemical Industry Corporation (CIC), Ethiopian Agricultural Businesses Corporation (EABC) and Ethiopian Mineral, Petroleum and Biofuel Corporation (EMPBC).
The visit provided an opportunity to reach an agreement for the execution of a joint development project for the implementation of a project to establish a local fertilizer factory in Ethiopia. The agreement is based on feasibility, conceptual, environmental and social impact and hydro-geotechnical studies. An integrated fertilizer complex will be established in Dire Dawa, the second largest city in the country in terms of population, using local resources (Ethiopian gas and Moroccan phosphoric acid).
