An American Congress delegation, led by the Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, Mike Rogers, praised, Wednesday in Rabat, the commitment of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to promoting peace, prosperity, and security in the region and the world.
Speaking at a press briefing following his talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, Rogers expressed his “deep gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI for His Majesty’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties between Morocco and the US, and His Majesty’s role in promoting peace, prosperity, and security both regionally and internationally.”
Rogers added that his meeting with Bourita was an opportunity to highlight Morocco’s key role as a partner of the US on several security issues.
The American official also shed light on the upcoming edition of the African Lion Exercise, the largest US military exercise in Africa that Morocco has been hosting for almost 20 years.
“The 2023 African Lion, which will begin in a few weeks, will bring again thousands of American troops to Morocco to train alongside their Moroccan counterparts,” said Rogers, noting that the nature of this exercise is “essential to the preparedness and interoperability of our armed forces as we work together to deal with common security challenges.”
In a similar context, the Republican Congressman praised the re-establishment of relations between Morocco and Israel, stating that “these relations are currently contributing to peace and prosperity.”
Rogers added, on this occasion, that the links between Morocco and the US “will only get stronger over the upcoming years.”
For her part, Congresswoman Sara Jacobs highlighted “Morocco’s progress in the reform process launched under the Leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI over the past two decades,” affirming that “Morocco is a close ally of the US” and that the two countries are committed to maintaining peace, prosperity, and security at both the regional and international levels.
The American delegation also held a meeting with the Minister Delegate to the Head of Government, in charge of the National Defense Administration, Abdellatif Loudyi.
