Spanish government spokesperson, Isabel Rodriguez, stated Tuesday that Spain and Morocco’s diplomatic relations are based on “mutual respect and responsibility”, adding that bilateral relations are governed by the Joint Declaration of April 7, 2022, and the conclusions of the High-Level Meeting, held in Rabat in February.
“Spain will continue to work with Morocco according to the principles of collaboration, mutual respect, and responsibility,” noted Rodriguez at a press briefing following the weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers.
The Spanish spokesperson reaffirmed that the Spanish government’s position on Morocco is “clearly expressed in the roadmap of the Joint Declaration of April 7, 2022, and recently at the Morocco-Spain High-Level meeting in Rabat.”
The Spanish official added that the agreements with Morocco are “very important,” as they cover several aspects of bilateral cooperation.
In a similar context, the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, recently described the balance of bilateral cooperation with Morocco as “very positive,” since the adoption of the Joint Declaration of April 7, 2022.
“We are pleased with a very positive outcome. We have laid the foundations of a relationship based on mutual respect and benefit, no unilateral actions, and compliance with the agreed upon commitments,” said Albares in a statement to the Spanish daily ”Ara”.Based on the new roadmap, adopted on April 7, 2022, on the occasion of the visit of the Spanish Prime Minister to Morocco, at the invitation of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the two countries are committed to addressing issues of common interest in a “climate of trust and consultation,” while resuming the working groups established between the two countries to boost bilateral multi-sectoral cooperation.
