Morocco called, before the Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the African Union (AU), for the immediate cessation of violence in Sudan, and the resumption of dialogue in order to achieve lasting peace and stability.
In an intervention during a meeting of the Peace and Security Council on Sudan in Addis Ababa, Morocco’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Mohamed Arrouchi, expressed Morocco’s deep concern about the current situation in Sudan.
Arrouchi stressed that Morocco calls upon the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces to announce the immediate cessation of clashes.
“We call for an immediate cessation of violence to ensure the safety of civilians and create the necessary conditions for the resumption of dialogue and peaceful negotiations in order to maintain the unity and sovereignty of this fraternal country,” stated the Moroccan diplomat.
Arrouchi further added that “we are convinced that violence cannot be a solution to any conflict, and that dialogue is the only way to establish lasting peace. In this regard, we call upon the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, to exert his good offices to expedite the resumption of dialogue between the concerned parties, in accordance with Article 10 of the Peace and Security Council (PSC) Protocol.”
The Moroccan diplomat added that Morocco urges all parties to work together to find a peaceful solution to this crisis, noting that Morocco “is willing to provide all necessary support to help Sudan overcome this difficult period and build a future of peace, stability, and prosperity.”
“We hope that all parties to this conflict will react positively to this call and take immediate measures to end hostilities,” concluded Arrouchi, calling on the international community to support the peace and stability efforts in Sudan.
