The Speaker of the House of Councilors, Enaam Mayara, held talks, Thursday at the headquarters of the House of Councilors, with the Ambassador of China to Morocco, Li Changlin, on ways to strengthen bilateral parliamentary cooperation.
The Upper House reported in a statement that this meeting was an opportunity for Mayara and Changlin to discuss international and regional issues of common interest, highlighting the strong long-standing strategic relations between Morocco and China, especially since the historic visit of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to Beijing in 2016.
The two parties also expressed their willingness to invest further efforts in promoting the expansion of relations in several fields, stressing the need to enhance parliamentary meetings and political communication aimed at strengthening bilateral ties at the economic and business levels and expanding the areas of cooperation to elevate partnership between the two countries which are rich in enormous opportunities.
Changlin expressed, in this regard, his confidence in the promising future of economic relations between Morocco and China, notably in the industrial and touristic fields, further praising the Royal Message that His Majesty the King addressed to the participants of the 1st edition of the National Industry Day.
The Chinese Ambassador also praised the adoption of the investment charter, which he sees as an important lever that can facilitate and strengthen the presence of Chinese companies in the Moroccan economy, especially in industry, further commending the dynamics of the Moroccan official and parliamentary diplomacy and their performance in defending the territorial integrity of the Kingdom.
For his part, Mayara stressed the need to undertake joint action and combine efforts to boost economic relations and expand trade, praising the strong presence of Chinese companies in Morocco and their contribution to the creation of employment opportunities and the development of the Kingdom’s socioeconomic growth.
The Upper House Speaker praised Beijing’s significant international role, especially its willingness to uphold balance within the United Nations (UN) by consolidating world peace and security, hailing China’s “positive neutrality” toward the Moroccan Sahara issue.
The statement concluded that Mayara warned against the dangers and risks brought on by the spread of armed militias and separatist groups across the continent, particularly in the Sahel-Saharan region where chaos, terrorism and drug and human trafficking threaten regional peace.
