Morocco ranked first in the medal table of the 7th edition of Moulay El Hassan International Para-Athletics Meeting, held between 9 and 11 March in Marrakech.
With 39 medals (16 gold, 13 silver, and 10 bronze), Morocco surpassed Tunisia (22 medals: 9 gold, 9 silver, and 4 bronze) and France (20 medals: 9 gold, 8 silver, and 3 bronze).
Moroccan para-athletes broke 4 continental records out of the 16 one broken during this edition, which was an opportunity for Moroccan para-athletes to compete against senior champions to improve their world ranking.
On this occasion, the Secretary General of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Sports for the Disabled, Mustafa Al-Fiqiwi, expressed his satisfaction with this edition, which witnessed the participation of over 450 athletes representing 44 countries in Africa, Europe, Asia, and America.
For his part, the National Technical Director of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Sports for the Disabled (FRMSPSH), Said Lamrini, stated that these positive results were expected, adding that national para-athletes managed to snatch a place in the world rankings, allowing them to qualify for the 2024 Paralympic Games of Paris.
Lamrini also praised the Federation’s efforts in raising the Moulay El Hassan International Para-Athletics Meeting Grand Prix to the standards of the Grand Prix series, stressing that Morocco has all the necessary resources to organize the World Championships in either 2025 or 2027.
This international sporting event was organized by the Royal Moroccan Federation of Sports for the Disabled (FRMSPSH) in partnership with the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports, under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
On the sidelines of this meeting, the Federation mobilized international and national experts to hold thematic meetings.. and training sessions, notably a training Classification for Intellectual Disability, a national forum on “Women and Para-Sport”, Para-Sport Awareness Days, a national meeting for associations and clubs affiliated to the Federation for the 2022/2023 sports season and tributes to female sports figures on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
