Iraq reiterated on Saturday its firm position in support of the territorial integrity of the Moroccan Kingdom.
Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, reiterated at a press conference in Baghdad with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, “Iraq’s constant position on the Moroccan Sahara issue and its support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco.”
Hussein added that Iraq stands with Morocco on its national territorial integrity issue.
In the same context, the Iraqi official affirmed the Iraqi support to the United Nations efforts to reach a final solution to the Sahara issue and stressed that his country supports the UN resolutions on the matter.
The Iraqi diplomat further emphasized the significance of resorting to peaceful measures through dialogue to settle the Sahara issue, while protecting Morocco’s territorial integrity and promoting security and stability in the Maghreb region.
In a similar context, it is noted that Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, held, Saturday in Baghdad, talks, with several senior Iraqi officials, including the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al Sudan, the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mohamed Al-Halbousi, the President of the Supreme Judicial Council and Chief of the Federal Court of Cassation, Faiq Zaidan, and the Iraqi National Security Advisor, Qassim Al-Araji.
During these talks, the Iraqi officials expressed their joy and delight at the opening of the Moroccan embassy in Baghdad, which will revitalize the historical and human ties that unite the two countries.
The Iraqi officials considered this decision a clear indication of His Majesty King Mohamed VI’s interest in supporting Iraq and His Majesty’s desire to strengthen Moroccan-Iraqi relations.
