The Presidents of the Moroccan, Spanish, and Portuguese federations of football held a meeting, on October 18 in Lisbon, as part of the ongoing preparations for their joint bid to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
According to a communiqué by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), this second meeting between the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, the President of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), Fernando Gomes, and the President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Pedro Rocha, was held to discuss and proceed with preparations for this intercontinental bid, which aims to mark the history of the World Cup.
The Moroccan, Spanish, and Portuguese officials had previously held a first meeting before the FIFA Council’s unanimous selection of the Morocco-Spain-Portugal joint bid as the sole candidacy for hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
During the meeting, the Presidents of the Football Federations decided to address, on October 28, the letter of intent to host the World Cup, thus fulfilling one of the requirements of the bidding process.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) stated that this letter will be the first formal step towards the joint bid, demonstrating the three countries’ commitment to organizing a successful World Cup. The letter of intent’s submission will take place in Rabat and will be followed by a press conference attended by the presidents of the three federations.
