The World Health Organization held, today in Switzerland, the 1st Quadripartite Executive Annual Meeting on One Health, a collaborative, multisectoral, and transdisciplinary approach, at the local, regional, national, and global levels, to obtain optimal health outcomes while acknowledging the interdependence between people, animals, plants, and their shared environment.
This quadripartite meeting is chaired by the Director General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization, Qu Dongyu, the Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme, Inger Andersen, and the director general of the World Organisation for Animal Health, Monique Eloit.
During this meeting, the chairs stressed the need for enhanced cooperation and commitment to transforming the One Health approach into policy actions in all countries through several actions, namely through sustaining the prevention of pandemics and health threats at source and building intersectoral One Health workforce.
The Director General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, urged, during this meeting, the coordination at the international and national levels in this regard, noting that the World Health Organization is committed to working with its partners to further promote the One Health approach and support its adoption around the world.
The Chairs of this quadripartite also called for urgent measures to mobilize crucial political commitments, increased investment, and multisectoral collaboration at every level in order to create a healthier planet.
The Quadripartite has been playing a key role in promoting and organizing a worldwide One Health strategy, in accordance with the One Health Joint Plan Action, which was introduced in October 2022.
In this regard, Quadripartite partners are working on the creation of a One Health Joint Plan Action implementation guide that will be made available later this year to further assist nations and governments in implementing the One Health approach.
